Safeguarding
Ulster Rifle Association recognises its moral duty and legal obligation to protect children and young people (under 18) in sport through the creation and promotion of a safe environment which protects them from harm.
The term child protection has been expanded to safeguarding as it reflects the wider responsibility for health, safety and prevention as well as just protection from abuse. Safeguarding is defined as: Doing everything possible to minimise the risk of harm. Safeguarding is about being proactive and putting measures in place in advance of any contact with children to ensure that they and the adults working with them are kept safe. The URA have endorsed a safeguarding policy and this includes having:
- Guidelines for people who work with children as part of their role to
ensure they know what they need to do to keep everyone safe (codes of
conduct) - Clear reporting procedures.
- Ensuring coaches/volunteers are properly checked via AccessNI when they are recruited and the URA will do this via
NISF - Requirement for those working with children to attend a safeguarding workshop.
