Sport NI Supports New Initiative to Grow Women’s and Youth Participation in Olympic Target Sports
The Ulster Rifle Association Presents: Target 2026
The Ulster Rifle Association (URA) is proud to announce a major new initiative, “Target 2026,” designed to introduce women and young people to the discipline and precision of target shooting.
Supported by funding from Sport NI, we are hosting an inclusive “Introduction to Shooting” day to foster new talent and break down barriers in the sport.

-
Location: Ulster Rifle Association
-

A Sport for Everyone
Target shooting is one of the few sports where gender and physical strength are not deciding factors in success. Success in this discipline requires mental resilience, calm, and absolute focus. While the sport has historically been male-dominated, the URA is committed to changing this narrative. With the backing of Sport NI, we are opening our doors for a fully supervised experience specifically for:
-
Youths: Aged 12–25
-
Women: All ages
What to Expect
The event is split into two specialised sessions:
-
Morning Session: Focused on Junior development.
-
Afternoon Session: Dedicated to Women in Sport.
Participants will receive comprehensive instruction, including:
-
Strict safety protocols and range discipline.
-
1:1 Supervision from qualified Range Officers for your first shots.
A Word from the URA
“We are incredibly grateful for the support from Sport NI. Their funding recognizes that target shooting is a sport that builds character, responsibility, and focus. We often find that women and young people make excellent shooters because they listen carefully to coaching and don’t rely on muscle power. We want to remove the barriers to entry and show people that our club is a welcoming, safe, and inclusive environment.”
— Chairperson and Secretary, Ulster Rifle Association
Safety and Supervision
The URA operates under strict PSNI-approved regulations. Our open days offer a highly controlled environment where safety is the number one priority. You will be guided every step of the way by experienced professionals.
